We Need Your Unwanted Coupons!
Our Mission:
When we think about the greatness of America, we need to also think about the poor and those that have fallen on hard times. “Coupons for the Community” is the beginning of an ongoing commitment to your community. It is not a burden, it is an adventure. Do not let anyone tell you this cannot be done.
Now is the time, together we can make a difference.
Your fellow citizen,
Suzanne Stigers
"Coupons for the Community"
is a program designed to bring volunteers of all ages and backgrounds that are committed to support our fellow Americans, one community at a time so that we can each live with dignity and hope.
Through a simple donation of unwanted store and manufacturer coupons, the volunteers at “Coupons for the Community” can help stretch the limited dollars available from private and government funding, which means together, we can provide local food pantries with more food and non-edible essentials like toiletries and hygiene products for members of our communities who need it most. Many of these items are not covered by food stamps: soap, laundry detergent and toilet paper etc, yet they are all necessities in life.

To Whom it May Concern,
The Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry is a non-profit, faith- based organization that operates out of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta. We have been serving the poor and disadvantaged in our community for over twenty years. In the last four years we have seen a tremendous increase in the number of people asking for our assistance. Between 2006 and 2008, the number of clients we served increased 176%.
When I was first approached by Suzanne Stigers regarding Coupons for the Community, I have to admit that I had my doubts about the feasibility of a program that collected food for mere pennies of its value. First of all, I know how much time and effort that I have put into using manufactures coupons though the years. To do this on a large scale seemed a daunting task. Secondly, I thought that the variety of coupons available would be too limiting to be of much use to our pantry. Then I met Suzanne, once you meet her and you see the energy and excitement she brings to this project you start to believe that anything is possible.
To date, Suzanne and her volunteers have donated over $7,000 in food to the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry in just over 6 weeks. The amazing part is that this food cost only $1,500 dollars. This is an amazing savings. Also, the variety has been surprisingly varied from shampoo to breakfast cereal, yogurt to frozen vegetables. Bravo to Suzanne and Coupons for the Community.
Suzanne and her family have also offered to run our summer feeding program for children. This is a special program that operates out of our pantry from June through August. The purpose of this program is to provide additional food to those families who would normally receive a free lunch during the school year. I am certain that if Suzanne brings half-as-much of the enthusiasm and energy to this lunch program it will be better than ever.
Sincerely,
Janice Ernsting

A Message from the First Lady...
"Barack and I will join thousands of people from across the country for an extraordinary day of service.
I recorded a short video to tell you more about this important effort. Please take a minute to watch it and sign up to host or attend a service event near you.
Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are committing to renew America together, one community at a time.
Whatever service activity you organize or take part in -- cleaning up a park, giving blood, volunteering at a homeless shelter, or mentoring an at-risk youth -- you can help start this important journey. But this is about more than just a single day of service, it's the beginning of ongoing commitment to your community.
Monday, January 19th, is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King taught us to live a life of service, and he led by example. He once said:
"If you want to be important -- wonderful. If you want to be recognized -- wonderful. If you want to be great -- wonderful. But, recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness."

It will take ordinary citizens working together with a common purpose to get this country back on track. This national day of service is an important first step in our continuing commitmennt.
Thank you,
Michelle

"It makes sense to everyone," Stigers said. "If you have them in your Sunday paper and are going to throw it away, just drop them at a church or where ever we have a collection place, so you can feed someone without spending a dime."
